Hotel Furniture FAQ for Project Buyers & Design Teams
Practical answers about drawings, BOQs, custom production, materials, FF&E scope, mock-ups, quality checks, packing and delivery. The answers stay project-specific where requirements can change by item, destination or approved specification.
Project Information & Technical Review
Questions that normally come up before costing, technical development and production release.
What should we send for an initial hotel furniture review?
Send the information you already have: architectural plans, furniture elevations or sections, a BOQ or furniture schedule, room types and quantities, material or finish references, project location and any operator requirements that affect the furniture. A clear starting package helps us review the scope before costing. See the Hotel Furniture BOQ Guide if your schedule is still being prepared.
Can you work from architectural drawings and BOQs?
Yes. We can review plans, elevations, sections, CAD or PDF drawings, furniture schedules and BOQs to understand the furniture scope. The documents are checked together because a dimension that looks correct on one drawing may conflict with another interface. Our Architectural Drawing Guide explains the main checks in more detail.
Can you review a project before all drawings are complete?
Yes, for an early scope and costing discussion, provided there is enough information to understand the representative furniture package. Missing dimensions, materials, finishes and interfaces must still be clarified before technical approval and production. We do not treat preliminary information as final production data.
Do you prepare or coordinate shop drawings before production?
Shop drawings can be prepared or coordinated as part of the technical development stage. They should show the approved dimensions, construction, materials, finishes, hardware and relevant interfaces before furniture is released to production.
How do you handle revisions during the project?
The latest approved drawings, schedules and finish information should control the furniture scope. When a revision changes dimensions, materials, quantities or interfaces, the affected items should be reviewed again before production continues. Clear revision references help prevent old information from being used.
What happens after the project information is reviewed?
We first define the furniture scope and the information available for costing. If the initial costing level is accepted, the project can move into detailed technical development, approvals, samples or mock-up work where required, production planning and manufacturing. The full sequence is shown on our Manufacturing Process page.
Custom Furniture, Materials & Performance
Questions about made-to-order furniture, finish choices and project-specific performance requirements.
Is I-HOTEL furniture made to order or selected from ready stock?
Our project furniture is made to order. Dimensions, construction, materials, finishes and quantities are developed around approved project information rather than a fixed retail-stock catalogue.
What materials can be used for custom hotel furniture?
The right material depends on the item, design, location and performance requirement. Typical project combinations can include engineered wood panels, natural veneers, solid timber, laminates, lacquered finishes, upholstery, metal, glass and stone or engineered-stone components.
Can finishes be matched to a hotel concept or brand palette?
Yes. Veneer species and matching, stains, lacquer colours, laminates, upholstery, metal finishes and visible hardware can be coordinated around approved samples and the design intent. The selected finish should be confirmed before volume production.
What makes hotel furniture different from residential furniture?
Hotel furniture is used repeatedly in a commercial environment and often has to fit exact room layouts, service interfaces and operating requirements. Construction, surfaces, hardware and upholstery should therefore be selected for the actual item and location rather than assumed from residential use.
How should furniture for humid areas be specified?
The substrate, edge treatment, finish system, ventilation and expected exposure should be considered together. Moisture-resistant boards, plywood or other suitable materials may be used where the project requires them, but there is no single material that is correct for every humid location.
How should fire-performance requirements be handled?
The applicable requirement should come from the project specification, destination or consultant. Fabrics, foams and other relevant components should then be checked against that requirement and supporting documentation reviewed for the selected material. We avoid applying one blanket fire claim to every furniture item.
Manufactured Furniture, FF&E & Sourcing Scope
Questions that clarify what is manufactured in-house, what may be sourced and how FF&E scope is defined.
Which products are manufactured by I-HOTEL and which may be sourced?
Core project furniture can be manufactured by I-HOTEL in İnegöl, Bursa. Complementary FF&E products that are outside our in-house furniture production may be sourced through specialist suppliers when they are included in the agreed project scope. The quotation and responsibility list should make that distinction clear.
Can one project include both manufactured furniture and sourced FF&E?
Yes. A hotel package can combine I-HOTEL-manufactured furniture with selected sourced items. Each category should be identified so the client knows what is made in-house, what is procured externally and what technical information is required from the selected supplier.
What does FF&E mean in a hotel project?
FF&E stands for Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment. The exact boundary can vary between projects, so the BOQ and responsibility matrix should define which package owns each item. Our Hotel FF&E Procurement Guide covers this planning stage in more detail.
What is the difference between FF&E and OS&E?
FF&E generally covers longer-life furniture, fixtures and equipment used to complete the hotel, while OS&E refers to operating supplies and equipment used in daily hotel operations. Operators and procurement teams may classify individual items differently, so the project schedule remains the final reference.
Can furniture be developed to hotel brand requirements?
Yes, when the relevant brand manual, drawings and specifications are provided. Brand requirements should be translated into item-specific dimensions, materials, finishes, hardware and any required performance documentation before approval.
Mock-Up, Quality Review, Packing & Delivery
Questions that come after technical approval, from prototypes and inspection through packing and shipment planning.
Can you produce a mock-up room before volume production?
Yes. Where the project calls for it, a full-scale mock-up room or individual prototypes can be produced so dimensions, proportions, materials, finishes, hardware and furniture function can be reviewed before larger quantities are released. See our Hotel Room Mock-Up page for the purpose of this stage.
What is checked during furniture quality review?
Checks are made against the approved project information. Depending on the item, this can include dimensions, visible finishes, hardware, upholstery, functionality, workmanship, labels and other agreed requirements before packing.
How is hotel furniture packed for international shipment?
Packing is selected according to the furniture type, finish, fragility, handling method and shipment route. Depending on the item, protection can include foam, edge guards, wrapping, cartons or wooden protection. The objective is to protect finished furniture through handling and transport.
How are international shipments coordinated?
Loading method, export documents, freight mode and delivery responsibilities are confirmed according to the destination and the agreed commercial terms. Road and sea shipment requirements can differ, so the packing and loading plan should follow the actual route.
Do you provide installation information or site supervision?
Installation information can be prepared where it is part of the agreed scope. On-site installation or supervision should be confirmed separately in the commercial agreement rather than assumed as standard for every project.
How long does a custom hotel furniture project take?
There is no useful universal lead time. Timing depends on drawing readiness, approval speed, project quantity, material availability, mock-up requirements, furniture complexity, sourced items, packing and shipment planning. A project schedule should be confirmed after the scope and approvals are understood.
Guestroom Furniture Questions
Common questions about the furniture package and the interfaces inside a hotel room.
What furniture is normally included in a hotel guestroom package?
A room package can include a headboard, nightstands, wardrobe, desk or dressing unit, TV unit or panel, minibar cabinet, luggage bench, bed base, seating and tables. The actual package changes by room type, hotel concept and BOQ. For the core category, see Custom Hotel Room Furniture.
What are hotel casegoods?
Hotel casegoods are generally non-upholstered furniture items such as wardrobes, desks, nightstands, dressers, TV units, minibar cabinets and luggage benches. They are usually developed around the room layout, approved dimensions, materials and finish schedule.
What should be coordinated when developing a hotel headboard?
Check the overall dimensions, bed and mattress height, wall fixing, bedside units, upholstery or panel finish, electrical points, lighting and maintenance access. The headboard should be reviewed as part of the room elevation rather than as an isolated panel.
What should be coordinated in a hotel wardrobe?
The wardrobe should account for internal storage, doors and hinges, safe or minibar zones where required, ventilation, lighting if specified, wall conditions and the installation method. Clearances should be based on the actual project rather than one standard tolerance.
What should be coordinated in a hotel TV unit or media wall?
TV size and bracket, cable routing, electrical and data access, ventilation, wall backing, storage and any connection with the desk or minibar unit should be resolved before production.
